Argyle Diamond mine is techically not open to visitors. However you can tour the world's biggest diamond mine in up-market comfort. The Argyle Diamond mine in the Kimberley region of Western Australia has allowed one operator, Slingair, to conduct tours through the mines. Another company Alligator Air also do a scenic flight over the mine.
Visitors to the AUD$430 million Argyle Mine don't have to put up with dust and scorching heat which is typical of many mines. Argyle treats its visitors as honoured guests. The Argyle Diamond Mine tour begins with a ninety minute flight. The fly-over includes Lake Argyle, the Ord Dam and the Bungle Bungles before touching down at the mine.
Visitors follow through the whole mining process which extracts more than thirty million carats of diamonds a year. The recovery viewing room, where rough diamonds are sorted and graded is the highlight of the tour. Visitors can see many millions of dollars of diamonds graded according to size and quality.
