Built in 1912 from local stone and materials, the Vlaming Head Lighthouse served as a beacon for mariners for over 50 years. The labourers and the Lightkeepers that followed that followed them, endured incredible hardship and isolation living and working in such a remote outpost.
The closure of the lighthouse in 1967, and the departure of the last Lightkeepers and their families marked the end of an important chapter in the regions history. Standing silent for over 30 years this icon has remained untouched.
Now lovingly restored to its original working condition and reopened to the public it is ready to commence a new chapter as Australia's only kerosene burning lighthouse.
