The Merseyside Maritime Museum tells the history of one of the world's greatest ports and the people who used it. For many it was a gateway to a new life in other countries. For others, its importance to the slave trade had less happy consequences. From slavers to luxury liners, submarine hunters to passenger ferries, discover Liverpool's central role in centuries at sea.
The museum tells the story of Liverpool's seafaring heritage and the merchant navy. The Museum itself is in a former bonded warehouse, part of the historic Albert Dock on the banks of the River Mersey.
The Maritime Museum is located at the Albert Dock on Liverpool's famous waterfront, adjacent to the Pier Head. A mere stroll from the city centre and all its attractions. Within easy reach of 1.5 million people, it has extensive rail, bus and road links (including a comprehensive motorway network), as well as convenient air and boat connections via Liverpool and Manchester Airports, the Mersey Ferry and Seacat.
