The Rhaeadr Valley is best known for being the home of Wales' highest waterfall, the Pistyll Rhaeadr. Hidden in a wooded valley, the water of the River Rhaeadr tumbles over craggy rocks and splashes over bolders to plunge 240ft over what is a two stage waterfall. Look out for the "Fairy Bridge", a natural stone arch over the river between "falls".
The 19th century author and traveller George Borrow remarked of Pistyll Rhaeadr, "I never saw water falling so gracefully, so much like thin, beautiful threads as here."
There can be abundant birdlife so it is worth taking binoculars, but make sure you come out of season or first thing in the day as it gets very busy at the height of summer.
