The Bailiwick of Guernsey Tapestry was created to celebrate the millennium and tells the story of 1000 years of local history, depicted in ten panels of embroidered canvas work. The tapestry is displayed in a purpose built gallery in the Dorey Centre, next to St James the Less 19th century church.
Each of the ten panels is named after one of Guernsey's parishes. The project was undertook by groups of islanders from each parish, who took four years to complete the 4ft x 3ft panels. School visits are welcomed by prior arrangement and it is possible to book the gallery for evening events, for corporate entertainment or community groups.
You can become a Friend of the Guernsey Tapestry and help to provide towards the future upkeep of the tapestry. Volunteers are also to help in the gallery shop, to deliver leaflets, to encourage people to visit the tapestry gallery and to help with fundraising activities.
