Kagyu Samye Ling Buddhist Monastery and Tibetan Centre was the first Tibetan Buddhiist centre in the West, established in 1967. It is located on the banks of the river Esk among the scenic rolling hills of the Scottish borders. The centre offers the highest standards of Buddhist teachings, preserving the culture of Tibetan Buddhism, arts and medicine.
Kagyu Samye Ling is open to people of all faiths and religions, and welcomes you for short visits or to come and participate in any of the diverse courses available throughout the year. From weekend Dharma courses of all levels, to all-inclusive retreats at our Purelands Retreat Centre, to drawing, painting or Tai Chi - or if you would simply like to just come and have a look around, Kagyu Samye Ling has something to offer everyone.
Day visitors are welcome to visit the temple and grounds at Samye Ling all year round. Guided tours for groups are available by prior arrangement. There is no admission charge for visiting Samye Ling, but donations are welcome! Booking isn't necessary unless you intend to take meals with us or stay overnight, in which case a minimum of 24 hours notice is required.
