Gallery Yujiro offers much more than just your average art gallery. Of course visitors can come in and view an eclectic selection of constantly changing exhibitions, but the gallery also provides workshops, talks and exhibitions curated by artists and guest curators.
Yujiro occupies the top floor of an industrial building, overlooking the abandoned biscuit factory, where Damien Hirst held his show that attracted the attention of Charles Saatchi. Who knows, you may glance the work of the next up and comming artist to hit the scene.
The gallery exhibits contemporary art by a varied group of artists, in solo or group exhibitions from all over the world. The artists work in a diverse range of mediums, from sculpture to photography to sound pieces.
The gallery invests 30 per cent of its profits back into the community and gives graduates the opportunity to rent cheap studio spaces during the difficult transition period after college, aided by advice from critics and curators. The gallery has links with Japan and will set up residencies between both countries.
