An Italianate villa built in the 1840s as part of The Crescent, Scarborough Art Gallery houses Scarborough's fine art collection. Paintings feature seascapes and views of Scarborough including works by Grimshaw, HB Carter, Frank Mason and Ernest Dade. The Gallery also displays works by Lord Leighton, Ivon Hitchens, Matthew Smith, Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious.
The Gallery has a lively temporary exhibition programme that features contemporary work by professional artists. The programme also includes talks and holiday activities for families.
There is also a Resource Room that contains a wide range of art books, art materials and worksheets, especially for families with children. Art works by local children are displayed here. Visit the gift shop for prints, cards, books and unusual gifts. Rooms can be hired for meetings and special events.
