Situated on the Weymouth Esplanade enjoying a commanding view of the beautiful Weymouth Bay and rolling Dorset Downs the Hotel Rex is adjacent to the Weymouth Pavilion with its theatre and ballroom. The seventeenth-century harbour with its busy fishing fleet is always a hive of activity and is but few a yards away, as are the car ferries to the Channel Islands.
The hotel was originally built for the Duke of Clarence as his summer residence when King George III held the Royal Court in Weymouth. The bedrooms are comfortably furnished, each having private bathroom, satellite colour television, direct-dial telephone, tea and coffee making facilities, hair drier and radio alarm.
The once famous Duke of Clarence wine cellars have now become the hotel's luxury restaurant, offering à la carte and extensive table d'hôte menu. The original cellars are still clearly distinguishable and a reminder of the gracious living enjoyed by the few of that era.
