The National Maritime Museum set amid an architecturally stunning building, owns a collection of more than 2 million items relating to seafaring, navigation, astronomy and time measurement. Some of the items are on display to the public in the themed galleries, while other items are loaned out elsewhere in the UK.
Free schools programmes are available, with hands on workshops and talks, that can be adapted to include children with special needs. A number of sign-interpreted events take place, as well as touch talks and tours, using artefacts, raised drawings and food and smells.
The Regatta Café open 10.00-16.30 serves a selection of hot and cold snacks, with an alfresco eating area overlooking the museum grounds, next to the children's play area. The Upper Deck Coffee Bar serving light snacks, is located beside the new gallery, with over 400 unseen objects.
