The Royal Observatory is one of the most significant historic sites in the world, which houses the Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian line, which is the official starting point for each new day, year and millennium. The observatory is open from 10.00 to 17.00, 7 days a week, free of charge.
The Time and Space Project, a £15 million redevelopment, will include a new, state-of-the-art planetarium, new galleries and an education centre. The New Times galleries, explore the themes of time relating to Greenwich, society, the navy and longitude.
You can take a volunteer guided tour on certain dates to discover the history of the observatory and daily planetarium shows take place, as well as shows especially for young children and scheduled observing evening events.
Be sure to check the site for details of meteor shows, seen at various times throughout the year and the online shop sells a selection of products to help you explore the night sky and beyond.
