Established in 2001, Arakwal National Park in Byron Bay is a beautiful coastal heathland located just south of the Byron Bay lighthouse.
The result of an historic Indigenous Land Use Agreement between the Arakwal people and the NSW Government, the park protects the largest remaining area of coastal clay heath in NSW.
Animal species found in the park included the shortbeaked echidna, wallabies, as well as a number of bird species, such as variegated fairy wrens, numerous honeyeaters and the eastern whipbird.
The national park is also home to threatened plant and animal species including 2 orchids - Byron Bay Diuris and the Ground Orchid, and 2 frogs - Wallum Froglet and Wallum Sedge Frog.
A spectacular cliff top walking track offers panoramic views of the ocean and north coast hinterland. Wind your way along the tracks through diverse coastal plant communities.
