Located 83 km from Devonport, Cradle Mountain is an integral part of Tasmania's World Heritage area. The region is characterised by rugged peaks and a wide range of glacial formations - glacial lakes, moraine boulders, scooped valleys and waterfalls. The jagged crags of Cradle Mountain epitomise the feel of a wild landscape, while ancient rainforest and alpine heath lands, button grass and stands of colourful beech provide a range of environments to explore.

The most popular walks are Mount Campbell (3 hours), Hansons Peak (3 hours), Twisted Lakes (3-4 hours), Lake Rodway (5 hours), Lake Lilla (1 hour), Ballroom Forest (3 hours) and the short Enchanted Walk along Pencil Pine River. The Overland Track - one of the world's classic treks, starts at the Cradle Moutain Visitor centre (6/7 Days).

According to seasons it is possible to go alpine skiing, although there are no ski facilities. In addition there is a Daily Park Pass fee.

Check local weather conditions with rangers and take a good look at 'How is the weather in Cradle Valley today?' noticeboard located at the Lake Dove car park. Take warm clothing just in case
