The 389 hectare, Auburn National Park, protects an area of open eucalypt forest and dry scrub. The Auburn River flows through the park over a jumbled mass of pink granitic boulders. Over time, water erosion has sculptured and is continuing to shape the scenic rock pools and cataracts of this river.

Vegetation along the river includes Callistemon, Leptos Permums and Stunned Figs. A variety of small lizards is commonly seen sunbaking around the river. Rainforest species occur in some areas on the northern bank riverbank. Bottle trees are commonly seen here. In the open Eucalypt Forest, tree species include Silver-Leaved Iron Bark and Forest Red Gum.

From Mundubbera travel south on the Mundubbera - Durong road to the Hawkwood road intersecrion 20km up the road is a sign to Auburn River National Park.
