The reserve, created in 1878, was originally 1.5 hectares and has grown and developed into an area covering approximately 100 hectares along the Loddon River.

The mineral springs were first found by the alluvial miners who discovered gold in the area in 1853.

HeritageHistoric mining sites are common throughout the reserve and plenty of relics can still be found today. After the end of the active mining period, early this century, the river valley was devoid of trees. The local community then developed the area into the attractive garden setting it is today.
