Mullion Range has a striking landscape combination of steep mountains and plateau areas. It is part of one of the old volcano systems that once existed in the Bathurst and Orange area. Fauna include gliders, possums, numerous bird species, and platypuses, which are well established in Summer Hill Creek.

There are two picnic areas, El Dorado and Fourth Crossing. The latter is at the start of the Water Race walking track, on which you can discover remnants of the 1860s goldmining boom in this area. Splendid waterfalls can be viewed from two other walking tracks along Summer Hill Creek.
