If you don't mind sharing the beach with a kangaroo, then Cape Hillsborough is a rare piece of Australian bushland that is worth a visit. The 816 ha national park is scattered with walking paths of varying lengths. One of the more popular walks is the Juipera Aboriginal Trail, a 1.2 km self-guiding trail which illustrates how Aboriginal people used the park's native plants for survival.
With eucalyptus forests, hoop pine, creeks, mangroves, hills and headlands, the park overflows with 150 species of birdlife and tropical butterflies. Kangaroos, wallabies and bush turkeys are frequent visitors to the beach so you can get up close for a great picture. Find a grassy patch on the headland and take in the sensational view of Queensland's rugged coastline.
