Kooragang Nature Reserve is the largest single estuarine reserve in NSW and is part of the Hunter River. The Reserve is a wetland mecca for migratory shorebirds from the Northern Hemisphere and is important for roosting and feeding. These bird species include the Bar-tailed Godwit, Greenshank, Terek sandpiper, and Eastern Curlew.
