Kooragang Nature Reserve

Kooragang Nature Reserve is the largest single estuarine reserve in NSW and is part of the Hunter River. The Reserve is a wetland mecca for migratory shorebirds from the Northern Hemisphere and is important for roosting and feeding. These bird species include the Bar-tailed Godwit, Greenshank, Terek sandpiper, and Eastern Curlew.

About 190 bird species use the site, a figure that represents 25% of all species known in Australia and is ideal for bird watching enthusiasts. The landscape is made up of a high diversity of wetland types, including mangroves, saltmarsh, mudflats, sandy beaches, rainforest remnants ect
