Deep in the Wombat State Forest, just a short drive from the township of Trentham, is the state's highest single drop waterfall.
Formed from molten lava rapidly cooling as it flowed some five million years ago along the old Coliban River valley, Trentham Falls plunges 32m over basalt columns. At the base of the falls quartz gravel, the former river bed, can be seen.
Trentham Falls, at 32m, provides a spectacular back drop to a picnic. Or take one of the many walking tracks into the nearby forest.
