If you thought dinosaurs were only in museums or movies, think again!
At Lark Quarry Conservation Park, in western Queensland, you can see hundreds of dinosaur footprints, preserved in rock. They record a dinosaur stampede that happened 100 million years ago.
The 374ha park also protects the landscape around the quarry - flat-topped hills studded with spinifex, sandy areas with stunted eucalypts and lancewood scrub on top of Tully Range. Stark as it is, this landscape is ecologically important.
The park is about 90 minutes' drive from the heritage town of Winton, where you'll find comfortable accommodation (you can't camp in the park). Come in the cool of the day to see the ancient footprints, take a short bush walk and admire this unusual part of the Australian outback.
Site facilities include picnic tables, shelter shed, public toilets, BBQ, and drinking water.
