The Kalgoorlie Arboretum is high profile park set on 26.5ha of land on Hawkins Street, the city's northwestern edge.
Established by the Forest Department in 1954, the Arboretum was designed to establish a living museum and trial area of representative tree species of the semi-arid zone & adjacent desert.
The Arboretum was also intended to serve as an aesthetic area for public recreation and education.
Its present day features include a wide variety of indigenous flora, including more than 60 species of planted trees, a remnant woodland area, 65 observed bird species, interpretive walktrails, recreation facilities on a grassed area under the shade of river gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis), and a small dam that attracts waterbirds.
