The Fan Museum in historic Greenwich, is the only museum in the world entirely devoted to all aspects of the ancient history and manufacture of fans. The collection contains over 3,500 pieces, predominantly antique fans from all across the globe, from the 11th century to the present day.
The themes depicted on the fans range from accounts of historic events, through to themes of children or flowers and the temporary thematic displays change three times a year. Fan making workshops are held on the first Saturday of each month or you can purchase fans in the gift shop.
The Orangery features a spectacular mural and is in keeping with the architecture of the period. The Orangery provides an elegant and unusual setting for intimate functions and overlooks the secret Japanese garden, with a fan shaped parterre, pond, stream and oriental architecture.
The education and study facilities on offer, cater for every level, from primary school children to post-graduate researchers. The Fan Museum has a fully qualified conservation service, for the preservation and protection of cherished fans.
