This park was the second National Park in the world, after Yellowstone in the USA. Only 32 kilometres South of Sydney, it was initiated as a 'people's park' for residents of Sydney.
The park provides an opportunity for Sydneysiders (and anyone else) to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy nature. After a 20 minute ferry ride from Cronulla to Bundeena, it is a short stroll up the hill before visitors will find themselves surrounded by nature.
The Royal National Park encompasses a whole range of vegetation types and landscapes from the coast to the hinterland, with good reasons to visit at any time of the year. Habitat types represented within the park include heath, rainforests, open woodlands and estuarine systems. The boulder laden cliff top heath lands are particularly beautiful when the wildflowers are in bloom.
