More than a million megalitres of water is held in the Bjelke-Petersen Dam, 15 minutes from the town of Murgon. The Dam is also known as Lake Barambah and covers a massive 2500 hectares.
As well as its use for irrigation and water supply to the nearby towns of Murgon and Cherbourg; the dam/lake is a popular for all types of water activities.
The Dam hosts a major annual fishing competition, over the first weekend in October, attracting thousands of anglers -all seeking that elusive 'biggest catch'. The freshwater fishing, boating, picnicking and camping facilities are world class. Picnic areas, barbecues, and a boat ramp with large car park make this the ideal place to wet a line.
