The word Moogerah is said to be a local Aboriginal word meaning "place of thunder storms". The Lake has served as a vital water supply for the surrounding areas. It was originally formed by the damming of Reynolds Creek in 1962 to provide a reservoir for irrigation within the Bremer Valley. Lake Moogerah has also provided water to many towns in the area including Boonah, Aratula, Kalbar, and Harrisville.
Lake Moogerah is a great place for fishing enthusiasts there is excellent fishing with lures, fly as well as natural baits. Australian Bass are the main species caught as well as occasional catches of golden perch and silver perch. There is also a never-ending supply of spangled perch, eels and catfish.
There are plenty of things to see and do in the park. You can dangle a line into the lake, try your hand at waterskiing or sailing or explore the beautiful district on a scenic drive and go wine tasting. If you're feeling adventurous you can go rock climbing or bushwalking in the nearby Lake Moogerah National Park.
The park has excellent facilities which include gas BBQs and sheltered picnic tables or if you don't feel like cooking you can grab a snack at the kiosk or BYO restaurant. There are public toilets and a caravan park beside the lake.
