At the northern end of the rugged Blackall Range, Mapleton Forest Reserve protects rainforest remnants with bunya pines, piccabeen palm groves, tall open blackbutt forests and picturesque mountain scenery. See the forest along the Mapleton Forest Drive starting just north of Mapleton. Have a picnic on the site of the old forest station in the headwaters of Cedar Creek. Picnic tables, toilets, barbecues, firewood and drinking water are provided.

Stop at Poole's Dam and walk to the top of a waterfall for stunning views over the forested valley below. Beware of slippery rocks. See the bunya pines along the walk through the piccabeen palm groves. The forest drive ends with spectacular views of the coast and hinterland from Point Glorious.
