A rugged, scenic area of mountain ranges, bisected plateaus and both wild and gentle rivers, much of which is listed as wilderness. Deua's rivers are popular for canoeing trips and its limestone belt attracts caving enthusiasts.

The park provides for wilderness recreation activities including bushwalking, abseiling, liloing, canoeing and adventure caving.

The best months to visit are between October and April, as winter can be quite cold, so be prepared to rug up if your camping in the park at this time of year. Many people come to the park in summer and visitors should be aware of bushfires during this period.

With the exception of Bendethera main cave and the first 200m of Wyanbene Cave, permits are required for caving.
