A vast area of Dobroyd Head in Sydney Harbour National Park was protected from urbanisation because it was part of a system of army lands resumed for Sydney's defences. As a result, the headland contains native bushland that has changed little since 1788. It's also renowned for its stunning harbour views.
Dobroyd Head is an important site along the Manly Scenic Walkway, which encompasses modern harbour side suburbs, Reef Beach, Aboriginal sites, native coastal heath and pockets of subtropical rainforest.
The walkway, opened in 1988, is a joint project between Manly Council and the National Parks and Wildlife Service. It's 10 km long and takes about 3-4 hours one way.
