North Head in Sydney Harbour National Park provides a series of three lookouts connected by a short walking track. It's also well known for the Quarantine Station. Between 1832 and 1984, the station protected Sydney residents from the impacts of epidemic diseases.

Today visitors can experience the strange contrasts of the site, from the lonely isolation of the burial grounds to the haunting shower blocks, disinfection rooms, autoclaves and the historic hospital.

Find out more in the 'history in the park' page. In addition, there are over 1500 rock engravings telling the story of ships and people who stayed at the station. The site reflects the era of sailing ships, Australia's immigration history and the development of medical science in the 19th and 20th centuries.
