Nullarbor National Park

An area of great natural value, together these parks cover 2,873,000 ha and protect part of the world's largest semi-arid karst (caves) landscapes. The national park is located 300km west of Ceduna.

Most of the area is flat and featureless except where the surface has collapsed into dolines (sink-holes) revealing the underground caverns formed by water dissolving and eroding the limestone layers, and enlarged by the action of salt crystals growing and expanding cracks in the rock until blocks break away.

The park is rich with Aboriginal culture and home to some sacred sights. It is also home to the largest group of Southern hairy-nosed wombats and some of Australia's endangered species such as the Major Mitchell Cockatoo, Nullarbor Quailthrush, Peregrine Falcon and the Australian sea-lion

The southern boundary of the park where the Nullarbor meets the Southern Ocean is one of the most distinctive features of the park. Eighty metre-high cliffs stretch for 200 kilometres along this unique coastline providing spectacular views.

Southern Right Whales gather at the head of bight in this area to give birth. At times up to 80 whales (including newborn calves) may be seen from the viewing areas provided.
