The Murray River Parklands are a series of reserves protecting natural and cultural attractions of the area. Linked by the majestic beauty of the Murray River, they feature towering River Red Gums, tranquil riverside settings with sandy beaches, wide expanses of water and colourful red cliffs. These parklands are ideal places for a range of recreational activities.
Flora & Fauna - The park is home to native fish species such as Murray Cod and Golden Perch. Other animals include Whistling Kites, Black Kites, White-winged Choughs, Brown Treecreepers, Honeyeaters, Red-rumped Parrots, Yellow Rosellas , Regent Parrots, Major Mitchell Cockatoos, the rare Carpet Python, small skinks and a variety of lizards.
The River Red Gum is the most widely distributed eucalyptus species in Australia growing along watercourses throughout the country. It lines the Murray River for most of its length, needing periods of partial flooding where its trunk may be inundated for months. The riverbanks at Robinvale have impressive old freshwater billabongs, Black Box woodlands, sandbars and rockshelves.
