Nestling below the famous Haytor Rocks and just inside the Dartmoor National Park is the rural hamlet of Haytor Vale and the Rock Inn. This traditional English Country Inn has been offering travellers hospitality, good food and shelter since it's foundation as a coaching inn in the mid-eighteenth century.

After a day exploring the magnificent countryside you will be ready for some relaxed and comfortable surroundings. All rooms are en-suite, well appointed with quality furnishings and decor, in keeping with the historical period of the Inn. Rooms have colour television, direct dial telephone, and beverage tray. Each room is centrally heated, some have DVD players and some are equipped with a very interesting historical "mini bar" for dispensing spirits.

The a la carte restaurant, like the rest of The Rock Inn, is built upon reputation. It provides an intimate, yet friendly atmosphere for your meal. The restaurant is open to all; however, please book in advance to avoid disappointment. A warm welcome also awaits you at the traditional local with its intimate bar areas and attractive features, including brass work, oak furnishings, and welcoming log fires. Real ales are stocked including: Dartmoor Best Bitter and Old Speckled Hen.

Further Information
Dartmoor is the largest area of unglaciated upland in Great Britain, with an immense granite surface and a variety of features of geological interest. The landscape of Dartmoor is characterised by the granite tors, which have been formed by the weathering of the granite over the last ten million years. A tor is described by geologists as the hard granite core of a higher mountain range of softer rock, which has eroded away. Granite is the most common intrusive igneous rock. This forms when magma from inside the Earth spills out through volcanoes or gaps in the crust, and sets on the surface.
