It is said that if you run around the ring of trees that form Chanctonbury Ring seven times anti-clockwise, the devil will appear and offer you a bowl of soup in exchange for your soul. Like its neighbour Cissbury Ring, Chanctonbury Ring isn't short of folklore and myth.

UFO and ghost sightings have been reported, it is a favourite place for sighting crop circles and plenty of people who have visited have talked of strange and frightening experiences.

Chanctonbury Ring started life as an Iron Age hill fort in the 5th to 6th century BCE although there have been finds on the site dating back to the Bronze Age. Nowadays it consists of a slightly threadbare ring of beech trees on top of Chanctonbury Hill.
