Lukesland has 24 acres of woodland gardens, with flowering shrubs, trees and a wealth of wild flowers. It is in the beautiful setting of a small valley with a brook cascading from its source on Dartmoor through ponds and over waterfalls towards the River Erme.
The Gardens are a great place for children of all ages. The numerous paths, bridges and tunnels through the bushes are just made for exuberant exploration. It is just the ideal place to run off Sunday lunch. Each year there is a new trail or treasure hunt for children. This is mainly for fun, but is also educational. Over the years these have become very popular and help families to see more of the gardens and learn about the different plants.
Most popular are the teas in the Old Billiard Room in the house. During garden open days, hot and cold drinks are available, along with a range of homemade cakes and buns, all at very reasonable prices. On cold, wet days there is a blazing log fire to sit by; on warm sunny days you can bask outside on the Victorian patio. The Billiard Room was added to the house in about 1875. It features a fine Victorian hammer-beam roof, recently restored to its original state
