Tabard Theatre

Opened in 1985, The Tabard Theatre situated Hammersmith, quickly built a strong reputation for new writing. However, the theatre now hosts all kinds of live entertainment from experimental work to Shakespeare and enjoys the support of a loyal local audience and, thanks to its location, visitors from all over London.

Since 2005 the theatre has been undergoing regular renovation work with the aim of becoming on of London's best-equipped and accommodating studio theatres for artists and audiences alike. The most significant phase of this renovation has just been completed and the theatre is about to embark on one of the most exciting periods in its twenty-year history.

The Theatre is situated above the Tabard Pub, a popular and welcoming local landmark. The Tabard is unique, with Arts and Crafts tiles by William de Morgan covering the upper walls. These tiles are such a fine example of the movement's style that their counterparts are held by the British Museum. Further tiles, by the artist Walter Crane, in an avant-garde style that would eventually become Art Nouveau, are on display around the fireplaces in the pub and theatre.
