Founded in 1959 by Richard Temple, the Temple Gallery as a centre for the study, restoration and exhibition of ancient icons and sacred art.

As a member of the Advisory Panel of the National Art Collections Fund of Great Britain, Richard has been active in the acquisition of icons by several major museums, among them the British Museum, the Musée du Louvre in Paris, the Timken Art Gallery in San Diego, California and the Museum of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in Moscow.

The current exhibition at the Temple Gallery, 'Russian Icons, Christmas 2006', includes some important early examples of the 15th and 16th centuries and consists mainly of later icons (18th and 19th centuries). There are also a number of miniature icons, measuring approximately 15 x 12 cm, in the £300 to £700 price range.
