Founded in 1908 and originally called Wimbledon Town Golf Club, Wimbledon Common Golf Club's location has had golf played there since 1865, when the Lord of the Manor of Wimbledon, Earl Spencer, gave officers of the London Scottish Rifle Regiment permission to construct a golf course. In 1928 the Club named as the Wimbledon Common Golf Club.
Nowadays a putting green is situated outside the clubhouse, and a practice net is available to the rear, adjacent to the professional's workshop. A full club repair service is offered.
Full bar and catering facilities are available. The bar has a large screen TV for use during sporting events, and there is a snooker room with a full size billiard & snooker table. The locker rooms, refurbished to a high standard in the spring of '98, are accessed via a swipe card entry system for security.
