The history of the Leicester Marathon goes back to the heyday of marathon running in the 60s, the city event had to stop in the 80's because of a massive decline in numbers but started up again in the 90's.
It has always been a charity event and the latest event, which started in 2001, is no different. For the first 3 years the event was held from Mallory Park motor racing circuit in Leicestershire and the proceeds, almost the whole of the entry fee, was given to the BBC 'Children in Need' charity.
It is a wonderful day out for all the family, providing a half marathon for those not wanting to do the full circuit.
