Blackness Castle is located in West Lothian, known for being in the heart of Scotland. The castle was built in the 15th century by one of Scotland's most powerful families, the Crichtons. The castles main roles were those of garrison fortress and state prison.
The castle has spectacular views across to the Fife coast and Forth bridges, and there are gravel paths around the lawn and some fine shrubbery in the grounds. There are also display boards around the lawn, although uneven ground and cobbles make it difficult for visitors using wheelchairs.
Parking is available at the site. Visitors with disabilities can be set down closer.
