Dirleton Castle has dominated the lands of its barony for 700 years and has boasted a beautiful garden, since its earliest days as a medieval fortified residence.
A formidable fortress built in 1220 by John De Vaux, the castle is located in the heart of central Scotland. Today, there is a colourful blend of traditional formal gardens and more contemporary plantings including the world's longest herbaceous border.
The two gardens and grounds are accessible to those using wheelchairs. Two steps lead to the inner courtyard. The castle interior is restricted for visitors using wheelchairs, as are the gazebo and dovecote.
Parking is available 110 metres away. Visitors with disabilities can be set down by the main road, which runs within 10 metres of the main gate.
