The Outback Opal Mine is located 30 minutes north of Cairns in North Queensland and provides visitors with a spectacular insight into Opals and how gemstones are mined in Australia.

An eight minute documentary, shown in English, German and Japanese, depicts Australia's Gemstone industry through aerial views of opal fields and amazing underground footage of miners at work.

Following the documentary, visitors embark on a tour through a simulated Opal mine, where they can get a better understanding of a range of different opals. The information gained through the experience helps people to make confident and educated choices when purchasing gemstones.
