The Belfast Botanic Garden was opend in 1828 by the Belfast Botanic and Horticultural Society. The gardens house an impressive collection of plants, an arboretum, herbaceous borders, a rose garden, a small alpine garden and stunning ornamental flower beds.
The botanic gardens is also used for events such as musical concerts, lifestyle festivals and special event evenings. The gardens most noticeable feature is the Palm House, which is a glasshouse consisting of two wings a cool wing and a hotter stove wing.
Magnificent tall trees and beautiful flowering climbers grow in the dome, whilst seasonal displays of plants are laid out on tiered staging in the cool wing. Exotic plants create a mini jungle in the stove wing.
