Wadham was founded according to the terms of the will of Nicholas Wadham who died in 1609. The fulfilment of his rather vague design was due to his widow Dorothy Wadham, a remarkable woman then in her late seventies. Wadham continues as an inovative and remarkable academic institution, yet always provides a warm welcome.
Wadham is very well placed to offer the full advantages of university and college life. Its large, quiet grounds situated in the city centre boast some of the most beautiful gardens and buildings in Oxford. Whadam welcome applicants from all types of schools and colleges, and selects candidates solely on the basis of academic potential, assessing achievement in the light of individual circumstances making it unique in the University.
