Ballochmyle is one of the most outstanding prehistoric rock art sites in Britain.
Ballochmyle lies just a few miles south of Kilmarnock where the River Ayr has cut an impressive gorge through the sandstone bedrock.
Discovered only in 1986 the site is well preserved with very clear carvings in the red sandstone. There are around 150 motifs including cups and multiple rings, a star shape in a ring, three animal forms that are unusual and a variety of grooves leading from cups.
