The Moores Building was the site of William Dalgety Moore's general merchant business in the late nineteenth century and gained its current facade at the height of the Western gold rush in 1899. In 1986 and 1993 the building was conserved to current condition with support of a Commonwealth Government America's Cup Grant by the City of Fremantle. Since 1994, this fine heritage building operated as a successful exhibition venue.

An intrinsic facet of Fremantle's Arts community, the gallery has six individual exhibition spaces offering interplay of history with contemporary visual art and craft. The (MBCAG) supports exhibition development and partnerships with artists, artist's organisations and communities and provides subsidised rental spaces, development assistance and information services for exhibitors.
