Dryslwyn Castle stands on top of a hill overlooking the Tywi valley, the native Welsh castle, was built in the 1220s out of limestone, today much of it has been revealed by excavation.
The castle was believed to have been occupied by the Princes of Deheubarth and was taken by the forces of King Edward I in 1287. Dryslwyn was later betrayed to Owain Glyn Dwr, the famous Welsh nationalist, in 15th century. When he withdrew from the castle, the English moved back in and subsequently looted and destroyed parts of the castle.
