This memorial, situated on Monument Hill, alongside the main War Memorial in Fremantle, with its superb views of the city, the harbour and Gage Roads in the distance, was erected in 1984.
It was designed by Les Olsen, ex H.M.A.S. 'Geraldton', and is constructed of Donnybrook stone. The memorial was unveiled by Roy Ward, ex H.M.A.S. 'Gympie', and was dedicated by Chaplain Clayton of H.M.A.S. 'Leeuwin'.
It commemorates all those men who served on any of the fifty-two Australian built corvettes, especially those who gave their lives in so doing, during World War II.
The structure is such that any person sitting there, whether it is on the seat or on the bollards, looking out to sea, can reminisce or imagine what life was like at sea during that time. It was financed entirely by Western Australians, and is maintained continually by ex corvette crewmembers.
