Although housing a very fine girls' school, Old Palace is an old stately home, with some parts dating back to Norman times and many others to the Tudor era. The Friends Of The Old Palace came into being in the 1960s. The Friends have twin aims of raising money for, and organising tours of Old Palace.
While you're on the tour, you'll be able to see some of the ways in which the money raised by the Friends has been used - for example, hand-crafted furniture in the Guard room, stained glass and solid wood seating in the Chapel, the restored Tudor Dining Room of Cardinal Morton, all much appreciated by pupils and visitors alike.
All tours commence at 1.45pm. Booking is not necessary unless you are planning to come as a group of 6 or more. Each tour lasts two hours, including a stop for tea and cake in the Great Hall half way round, and the tea is included in the price of the tour. All tours are guided and unaccompanied touring of the building is not permitted.
