Fremantle Hospital and Health Service is one of three general tertiary public teaching hospitals in Western Australia. It is also the only hospital in the South Metropolitan Area Health Service. Fremantle Hospital, the largest and most dominant of these institutions is a 24-hour acute-care community training hospital. The Hospital enjoys an international reputation for its research, surgical services, medical and nursing expertise.
In current years the Hospital has set yearly records for cost effectiveness, patient service and patient numbers. Fremantle Hospital has a wide range of disciplines, including nuclear medicine; cardiothoracic surgery, is the State referral centre for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine and also advanced radiology services.
The hospital has a dedicated Paediatric Ward of 30 beds and a geriatric wing with full rehabilitation services. Seven University of Western Australia professors are on site teaching a range of disciplines.
