Loch Awe in Argyll is the third largest fresh water loch in Scotland and the longest fresh water loch, measuring 35 kilometres from end to end with an average width of 1 kilometre.

The picturesque Loch contains several ruined castles on islands, and at the northern end stands Kilchurn Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Scotland, which can be visited by a short boat trip in summer.
Loch Awe has always been renowned for its large stocks of wild brown trout, having broken the British rod-caught record four times over the last decade. Salmon also pass through the loch, coming past the barrage in the River Awe and continuing into the River Orchy.
